Albion boss Bryan Robson has offered a note of caution following his side's unbeaten start to the season, warning: "Judge us after eight games."

Hopes are high that the Baggies may avoid another relegation battle after taking four points from their first two games. That marks progress from last season when they did not win until their eighth match.

Their promising start follows on from the run-in to the end of the last campaign when they suffered just two defeats in nine games.

But Robson said it was too early to say whether they were adding to the momentum built up during the final months of the Great Escape.

"We've got a bit of a way to go yet. After seven or eight games then you can say if we've kept that momentum going," he said.

"The early signs are that we haven't gone backwards and lost it.

"But you've got to do it over seven or eight games. If by then you've got plenty of points on the board then you can say: 'We haven't lost it' and we may go on and improve this season."

Although league tables mean little at this stage of the season Albion fans will have taken pleasure from seeing their side finish the weekend in seventh place rather than hovering round the relegation places.

And Robson himself admitted it was an early boost to a side for which the standings made uncomfortable reading throughout the previous Premiership campaign.

"Last season when they looked in the newspaper every Monday morning they were in the bottom three and that's not great for confidence," he said.

"It's not great for people being happy around the place. So it's nice to pick the paper up now and see we're in seventh place.

"It's nice for the players, even though it's only after two games, not to be in the bottom three."

Robson also insisted he would not be afraid to change a winning team today when Albion travel to Chelsea. "We're playing three games in seven days and we have to freshen it up," he said.

"It's a lot to ask for people to play three times in a week so there will be changes."
